'Driving recklessly': David Beckham and his son Brooklyn escaped uninjured after the multiple car collision earlier this month(file picture)

David Beckham was allegedly 'driving recklessly' and 'speeding really bad' before a multiple car pile-up in Los Angeles earlier this month, according to newly released emergency telephone calls.

The football star and 12-year-old son Brooklyn escaped injury when his car rear-ended another on one of the city's busiest freeways.

Now 911 calls made by other drivers to report the accident suggest that Becks - who was at the wheel of his luxury black Cadillac Escalade SUV [sports utility vehicle] during the May 6 incident - was going fast enough to attract their attention.

One female caller, who said she was behind Beckham for miles, told the operator: 'I just want to let you know that they guy with the SUV was speeding all the way from LAX [Los Angeles Airport].

'He was speeding really bad from LAX. I let him pass by and he was just driving so recklessly.'

A male caller claimed that Beckham's vehicle was 'definitely speeding' and 'tailgating' another car.

He added: 'It pulled out of the car pool lane and pulled back in, kind of breaking a couple of traffic laws.

'I mean, this guy was speeding.

'I guess there was a car with its hazard lights on in the car pool lane that had stalled out or something and he rammed it in the butt.

'He was definitely speeding and cutting in and out of the yellow lines prior to that.'

The collision occurred when a gold Mitsubishi stalled in the fast lane due to mechanical problems, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said at the time.

The accident happened on the 405 Freeway, near Torrance, just outside of Los Angeles.

Neither Beckham nor son Brooklyn, who were both wearing seatbelts, were injured.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 40-year-old Los Angeles man, was taken to hospital after complaining of pain but was not seriously injured.

Police were at the scene but Beckham was not arrested or questioned.

A spokesman for Beckham told celebrity website, TMZ.com, who originally obtained the 911 calls: 'As unfortunate as accidents are, David was not cited by the police at the scene for any violations.'

A spokesman for the South Los Angeles California Highway Patrol (CHP) office, which is dealing with the incident, was unavailable for comment today.

As such it is unclear whether the CHP is taking any action in light of the claims about Beckham allegedly speeding and driving recklessly.
